Juneathon Day 14

WOT! NO DAY 13?

I have had an epiphany.

When completing Janathon, earlier on in the year, I made a point of running every single day of the month, even if I really didn’t want to. Whereas for Juneathon will be taking more of a relaxed approach. I know the rules are ‘run every day’, but I’ve decided I can do without the pressure of having to run everyday. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve not given up and I still hope to run as much as possible, but just don’t want it to take over.

So now would be a good time to explain exactly why I’ve come to that decision. I didn’t run yesterday, for a number of reasons:

  • I wanted a rest after Tuesday’s club training – where I worked hard.
  • I didn’t get out of school until late – I was on late busy duty and, due to the Queen’s visit, coach was late picking up kids.
  • Stressful night – phones calls to various people – attempted fraud on bank account.
  • Euro 2012.
  • Drama cooking the beef – needed longer in the oven!

So my new relaxed approach to Juneathon lead to a nice relaxing dog jog round the woods. I grabbed the ipod, whacked it on shuffle, and ran 5.53 miles in round about 45 mins. Sweet deals!

Total Juneathon mileage after day 14 = 48.57

Juneathon Day 12

Tuesday is club training night. Which means:

knackered [ˈnækəd] Brit Slang (adj)

1. exhausted; tired out

2. worn out; no longer working, esp after long or hard use

Training tonight was a tempo session:

  • Warm up
  • 10min fast
  • 3min recovery
  • 10min fast
  • Cool down

Mileage tonight = 4.85

Total Juneathon mileage after day 12 = 43.04

Juneathon Day 11

After yesterday’s failure to run, tonight’s run was also under pressure: late meeting and two Euro 2012 matches (one of them the England game).

Department meeting finished at 4.40pm leaving 20min to get home. Therefore cue the ridiculously bloody slow driver that I had to follow all the way home. Despite this I was home within a minute of kick-off. Pretty good performance from Eng-er-land, bring on Sweden!

So tonight’s run took place at 9.50pm, and was finished at 10.20pm – an uneventful run of 3.65 miles around town. In the words of Roy Castle:

“Dedication’s what you need!”

Music accompaniment = Crash Test Dummies

Runners passed = 0

Total Juneathon mileage after day 11 = 38.19

Juneathon Day 10

Fail.

It has been a very busy weekend, we have been enjoying the hospitality at MOD Woodbridge, and taking advantage of a very cheap bar in the Officers’ Mess.

It was my Nephew’s christening and you should now call me The Godfather.

No actually running took place today, so I am putting forward some intense games of Giant Jenga as today’s exercise.

Number of miles run = 0

Number of games of Giant Jenga won = 0

Juneathon Day 9

A morning dog jog was the plan. Got downstairs in running kit and, looking for a bit of sympathy, told Helen I was feeling a tad achy. Her reply:

“Well you will do these silly challenges!”.

Enough said, and off I went….

By the time I got to the woods my lethargic state had evaporated and I enjoyed a nice gentle jog. Lots of people about this morning, dog walkers, runners and even a man walking backwards!? I didn’t ask.

Juneathon Day 8

A busy day today saw the first real threat to Juneathon. To begin the day we had a long drive up north to return the dog we’ve been looking after. Followed by a visit to, Kath, the sister-in-law for some dinner. She served up a Spaghetti Bolognese that wouldn’t have been out of place in a Michelin Star restaurant.

Whilst there we watched the first game of Euro 2012. Nephew Jason was also at home, attempting to complete his History homework. However, I’m slightly concerned that it won’t be his best piece of work due to the fact that he was watching the footy and tweeting.

This all meant a late run, the first of the month, I’d rather not run in the evening, but needs must. Just a short run around town was the plan. It was incredibly windy tonight, like a scene from The Wizard of Oz.

Although I did manage to avoid the flying cows. Tonight’s run was 3.43 miles. A pretty uneventful run, but then again I didn’t have my contacts in, plus it was dark, so pretty much anything could have happened and I wouldn’t have noticed.

Total Juneathon mileage after day 8 = 31.38
