Juneathon Day 14

Two weeks into this year’s ridiculous ‘different activity every day’ Juneathon. Today: early morning run.

I was out the door at 5.55am. It was a beautiful morning and wanted to just have a gentle little 3-miler down to the river and back.

I made the mistake of running around the field on the way back, which meant my feet were absolutely soaked by the time I got off it.

But it was a lovely run – 3.5 miles in total – these early morning runs should definitely make a more regular appearance in the week.

Juneathon Day 13

Today, a first for me at the ripe old age of 53, a ‘video’ workout. When I say video, I’m not talking Green Goddess, Rosemary Connelly or even Mr Motivator. I’m talking about the craze of online workouts.

This is Caroline.

I joined the better half for a online workout: ‘arms and abs’. Instructor Caroline put us through our paces. I actually quite enjoyed it. 30 mins of focused, non-stop exercise.

She had us shoulder pressing, chest pressing, lateral raising, tricep dipping, rowing, and all plethora of pain.

I’ll be feeling it in the morning!

Book 12 of 2023

‘Death and the Penguin’ by Andrey Kurkov

This was a recommended by someone a while back, then it appeared on ‘Between the Covers’ on BBC2, so thought it was about time I gave it a read.

This story follows Viktor, an aspiring writer in Ukraine. He wants to write novels but ends up writing obituaries. He also has a penguin! He rescued it from a zoo when they couldn’t afford to feed it.

It takes a while, but he eventually realises he has been drawn into a world of politics and mafia. Viktor’s relationship with Misha, his penguin, is seemingly weird, but fascinating.

Good little novel – well worth a read.

Juneathon Day 10

Now before everyone starts, I am counting a different Parkrun venue as a different activity this month. End of. No more discussion.

Today was Gorleston Cliffs Parkrun; my home Parkrun. Lovely morning, sunny, warm, the perfect start to the weekend.

Just about got there in time this morning – I had about 20secs to spare before the off. It was a bit of a late decision to attend.

Ran it pretty steady/fast – sub 8min/miles – getting a bit quicker every mile.

Coolio.
