‘Boy 87’ by Ele Fountain

A great little book. Aimed at young teenagers.

It follows a young lad who is hoping to get to Europe, running from an unnamed dictatorship that is threatening to punish him for attempting to leave the country.

The book explores the reality of being an immigrant, it is at times horrifically violent and cruel, but ultimately about the power of kindness and the strength of the human spirit.

‘Everyone Here is Lying’ by Shari Lapena

I quite liked this book. Well, at least the first three-quarters, that was really good.

I just wanted a bit more at the end, not sure what, it just lacked something.

I still gave it 4 stars. Partly because I seem to give everything 3.5 stars and this was better than that!

Juneathon Day 29

The penultimate day of Juneathon.

Early morning run – no parkrun this morning – got a busy weekend ahead.

4 mile loop of the village, taking in the River Centre, a lovely still morning.

One day to go.

Juneathon totals:

23 days running = 95.70 miles

3 days swimming = 1926 metres

3 days cycling = 31.33 miles

Juneathon Day 28

Finally got to the end of a rather long feeling week. The third, and last, bike ride of Juneathon.

Total: 8.15 miles

Juneathon totals:

22 days running = 91.43 miles

3 days swimming = 1926 metres

3 days cycling = 31.33 miles

Juneathon Day 27

It was another swim at the end of the day in the school pool. That’s the strange sized pool.

46 x 15.8m lengths = 726 metres

After another hot day in the classroom it felt particularly good today. Just 3 days of Juneathon left.

22 days running = 91.43 miles

3 days swimming = 1926 metres

2 days cycling = 23.18 miles
