Halfterm Funtime

After the shenanigans of the last term, this halfterm I had decided that it was to be full up with stuff. And it was. I had homework to complete.

Plenty of parkrunning and long runs, Samaritans, gigs, meals out, reading, allotment action and general merry making was had.

I’m feeling ready for a very important term back at school.

Great night. Dubious karaoke.

Blog Janathon

Back in the Blogosphere…

Let's be honest: Janathon was a disappointment. Only managed to run for 22 days, barely reached the 100 mile mark and found the second half of the month very tough. Cue an endless list of excuses: cold, snow, ice, busy at work, snow, cold, ice, dark nights, busy at work and it was very cold.

Following on from the monthly projects in 2012 and Janathon I feel like a bit of a rest is needed in February.

Work has been very busy and I've been working hard to catch-up with marking in an attempt to have a pretty quiet and relaxing half-term. The hard work has paid off and I've somehow managed to do everything apart from a class set of Y10 controlled assessments that need doing. A week to recharge the batteries this week because the next term is probably going to be very busy: exam preparation, after school sessions and other general rubbish.

So the start of half-term began with beer, some vodka martini in a James Bond style, some blue stuff…

….followed by some green stuff….

In other news….I have managed to bag some tickets for a few gigs in the coming months:

I came across this little baby halfway through the month of #decembeer. A beer specially brewed for Frank Turner by Signature Brew. Apparently Frank likes his beers' “to be refreshing and crisp”. So Signature Brew came up with this….#31…Believe…..

“This modern twist on the traditional wheat beer encompasses subtle citrus and orange flavours to create a crisp refreshing brew. Enjoy cold with great folk”

As much as I love Frank turner, this beer is not particularly good. Rather too much like a lager than a beer. This beer would easily get lost amongst the dozens of really good beers out there.

Banana Bread Beer #decembeer

#30 to the #decembeer party is from Wells Brewers….Banana Bread Beer…

Now if you concentrate really hard you can taste a subtle banana taste, and actually as gross as that sounds, the beer is quite nice.

Anyone fancy a juxtaposition…?

A Janathon blog post quickly followed by a #decembeer blog post….

Today we have Bishops Finger….

Apparently this beer has the smell of roast, toffee and berries….still not getting it.

But quite a tasty beer: malty and rich.

A post modern classic….

Once the #decembeer train is going, it's best to just hold on for the ride. Next up a “post modern classic” from BrewDog, Punk IPA….

Quite a distinct aroma – smells very fruity. As this is a 'punk' beer and is “uncompromising, bold and irreverent” wasn't quite sure what to expect. So I just drunk it and thought of The Clash….

Back on track….

This Christmas there has been a distinct lack of Christmas cheer about….

Having reached #26 of #decembeer and welcoming Nephew Stanley into the world I somehow managed to become infected with some superbug causing me to be laid low for the past five days. Not a beer, wine, shot or cocktail has touched my lips since then and yet I still feel rough. So today I have decided that it is in fact a LACK of beer that has caused this recent illness. So I'm back on the #decembeer train!

The chosen beer that is going to get me back on track is Fursty Ferret (#27)…

A tasty beer this, light golden in colour with a hoppy aroma and good refreshing taste. Named because rumour had it that inquisitive ferrets would sneak to the back door of the local inn and sneakily sample the local brew. Although I'd be slightly concerned for my sanity if I suggested I had seen a crowd of ferrets supping on pints of beer!

A sparkly new nephew….

Today we have a reason to drink beer! My little sister and her husband have a new addition to the family – a lovely little boy. No names as yet, but Star, Donkey, Jesus and Rudolph are all still in the running!

So we welcome the little lad into the world with the help of a bottle of 'Bitter & Twisted', #26 of #decembeer…..

It was a pretty poxy day today: raining, busy everywhere and raining. I did initially choose this beer because it summed up the character of the old bag nasty piece of work woman in the cafe I went in for breakfast this morning.

But in the end the day was very good!
