Halfterm Funtime

After the shenanigans of the last term, this halfterm I had decided that it was to be full up with stuff. And it was. I had homework to complete.

Plenty of parkrunning and long runs, Samaritans, gigs, meals out, reading, allotment action and general merry making was had.

I’m feeling ready for a very important term back at school.

A cold, frosty, early morning walk at Bourne Woods with the dog. Good start to the day.

31 days. 31 runs. Lovely jubbly. #janathon

Janathon Day 31

That is it. Done. There are 31 days in January and I have run on every single one of them. 31 runs. Here are my Janathon stats:

Today's run was at the woods in the snow, yes you heard that correctly, in the snow. I needed to do 6.67 miles to break the 130 mile barrier. I ran 6.72. Cushty.

There were not many people about this morning, unsurprising really considering it was bloody Arctic weather – freezing cold, blowing a hooligan and snowing.

Clearly the snow was starting to send me slightly crazy.

I'm not really in the mood for a reflective Janathon post at the moment – that will come later – but suffice to say , as is normal of Janathon, it has been an experience.

Today's mileage = 6.72

Total Janathon mileage = 130.04

Boom!

Janathon Day 24

Today began with a fabulous breakfast…

It continued with a bit of shopping, followed by a 5-miler at the woods. But more importantly, 24 days into Janathon and we reach the landmark of 100 miles. Boom!

Today's mileage = 5.20

Total Janathon mileage = 101.18

It has been a very quiet start to 2015, not really been up to much, hence the rather boring collection of daily pictures. So a day shopping in Peterborough gets the nod…

Did I hear someone say get a life?

One of those days today…

This is a box….

This is a tick….

Sometimes they are best left apart.

In other news…

I ran for the 23rd day in a row! For one reason only: Janathon. At the woods in the dark. It was very cold, windy AND snowing; hence I didn't run far.

Today's mileage = 2.83

Total Janathon mileage = 95.98

Glad to see the back of it today!

Grrrrr!

Yes….I ran at the woods….

Janathon Day 17

Less than 12 hours since the last run I was at it again. Today I ran along the picturesque seafront taking in the fresh air and morning sun at the woods. I seem to run at the woods a lot. Too much me thinks. Tomorrow I vow to try and run somewhere else. The only reason I run at the woods is so I can take the dog with me and kill two birds with one stone. Big effort to take in some new scenery tomorrow.

This morning's run was pretty uneventful, a big lap on the trails of Bourne Woods: 5 miles. It was a bit foggy this morning, I tried to catch it, mist.

Loads of mud.

I didn't really have a lot planned today so I decided to sort out my snail collection. I took the shell off my racing snail, thinking it would make him faster. If anything, it made him more sluggish. Also, Helen has taken to drawing on her eyebrows, I told her she was drawing them on too high. She looked surprised.

Today's mileage = 5.02

Total Janathon Mileage = 72.28

Faster than a speeding bicycle…. #janathon

Janathon Day 11

Today’s early morning run was, once again, at the woods. Plenty of people about this morning, including some very slow bike riders, that I actually ran past. Conjuring up images of Superman. How does the phrase go?

‘Faster than a speeding bicycle. More powerful than a gust of wind.

Able to leap over muddy puddles in a single bound’

It was very muddy, at times it was rather difficult to stay upright. Just recently I am suffering with a bit of an achy back after doing some trail running, I think I need to strengthen the core!?! Perhaps I should be hitting the weights at the gym? That sounds very Superman. Not.

I was accompanied on this morning’s run by Michael Rosenberg, AKA Passenger, and very enjoyable it was too.

Today’s mileage = 6.85

Total Janathon mileage = 51.14

Janathon Day 10

Janathon Day 10

Following on from yesterday's blog post about data, I thought I'd give you some more:

  • 32.25% of Janathon in complete
  • Average daily mileage of 4.429
  • I am currently exceeding progress
  • I am predicted to complete 137 miles
  • Intervention is not required
Although at one point today I thought I would never walk again. I had, embedded in my foot, the biggest shard of glass the world has ever seen*.

After a very long operation to remove said fragment of evil, during which I experienced more pain than a woman during childbirth, I was finally able to fit in today's run. It was round the woods in the dark with the dog. I had my trusty head torch on, although that didn't help me spot the huge twisted mass of branches that almost caused me and the dog to end up in a ditch.

Today's mileage = 4.24

Total Janathon mileage = 44.29

Today's photo, and evidence of the rock and roll lifestyle I live, tumble dryer shopping.

* I would have taken a picture of the offending piece of glass but it was too big and there was far too much blood.

A bright and early #janathon run….

Janathon Day 4

A bit of a strange morning today: I was awake at 6am.

With the ergophobia beginning to take a grip, I decided not to role over and go back to sleep. A nice early start will mean an early night which in turn will mean I will be bright and fresh for the first day of a new term. So there is only one thing to do when you are up bright and early during Janathon: go for a run. It was too dark to venture out so I read for a while.

7am. Time to go. I thought as I was up early I would encourage the dog to join me by explaining to him that we would go to the woods and chase deer. He was up for it. So we headed out into the morning: thick frost, icy roads and bloody freezing.

Double layers. Check. Hat. Check. Gloves. Check.

We got to the woods and it was barely light.

There were indeed plenty of animals for the dog to chase, so he was happy. As for me it took a while to get warmed up, but after a couple of miles I was feeling better. By the time the sun decided to venture out we were pretty much done: 7ish miles.

I can now get on with enjoying the rest of the day knowing that I've run AND blogged. Not looking forward to day 5, first day back to work after the holiday, not sure where the run is going to fit in.

Today's mileage = 7.18

Total Janathon mileage = 19.66

This was the best picture I could come up with on this morning's run…

Cushty.
