Origami #28

Today's attempt at making a piece of origami didn't go quite to plan. The first initial attempt at a modular tetrahedron was a disaster. It was really difficult, it looked simple but the final assembly just wouldn't work. I found it near impossible to get the four corners in place, it keep falling apart. Very frustrating. It would seem that 28 days is not long enough to become an origami master…..

But, I was not about to be beaten, and proceeded to create a rather easy puppy….

So that just leaves two more days before the end of a rather enjoyable little challenge.

Origami #13

Unlucky for some….today is the 13th day of November's Challenge. I thought it was about time we had an origami amphibian…….

And so a frog…..

This was quite a difficult little blighter, it took 50 different stages and some sort of weird blow into the body to expand it (although this didn't seem to work very well). As you can see below, it doesn't look particularly like what it should do.

Origami #11

After #origamisaturday and the pressure of creating three masterpieces in one day it was nice to just have the one to make. After yesterday's blog post I had a request from Twitter to make a fish, and not being one to disappoint, a fish was the plan.

A quick look on the origami app I found a rather amazing looking koi carp that I thought would be impressive….

However, after a very frustrating hour and three failed attempts later….

I decided on a rather simpler couple of fishes….

Origami Day 2

After the success of the origami boat from yesterday, in which the students in my tutor group also had the pleasure of learning, today's paper folding creation was far more tricky. In fact, I may have increased the difficulty far too early on in the month. It involved a lot more concentration, some decidedly dodgy folds and an equally dodgy outcome. May I present a lily……

And just so you have something to compare it with, this is the picture from the website of the same lily created by a origami master.

I'd like to add a couple of points at this stage. Firstly, the pink paper has helped make the origami master's lily more lily looking. Secondly, the paper I'm using is not special paper, the website suggest 'origami paper', whatever that is. Anyway, click here to have a go yourself, but be warned, it is quite difficult. I don't think the tutor group will be having a go at this one!!!

Unicycle Day 14

It has been a while since I've blogged about this month's challenge. Mainly because I haven't really got anything to say. It has been a busy week at work, the weather has been a bit dodgy, the evenings are closing in and I've just lacked the time to put in any proper practice.

I've found that to show any improvement you really have to put the time in to practice. The first 30 minutes or so feels like you've never been on a unicycle before. It's not until the hour mark before you're feeling more comfortable. Hence why I've not really got anything to show from the week.

I'm hoping for a dry morning tomorrow. I was actually planning to run a parkrun, but decided to put that off until the unicycle is mastered. Now that's dedication to the cause!!

Although I could always make another purchase to help with the challenge….

Unicycle Day 7

This week has been a difficult week in the September Challenge. First full week at school full of teaching, meetings and information overload has had a negative effect on the unicycling.

There has been far too much of this….

And not enough of this….

The forecast for the weekend is dry, warm and sunny so my plan is to practice, practice, practice! I desperately need to lose the fear and get back on track.

So here's to a successful weekend of unicycling!
