Reading, summer festivals and running….

A couple of books that need ticking off the list…

Room

I’m glad I’ve read it, after all the good reviews I’d heard, although i was slightly disappointed. The first half of the book was great, and then I couldn’t help thinking that I wanted more to happen….

Just started reading ‘Once a Runner’ by John Parker.

Having just started the half-term holiday I’m starting to think of the summer and possible festivals to attend, the list of possibilities go something like this:

Cambridge Folk Festival

Rhythm Festival

2000trees

Indietracks

The Big Chill

Also, on the music front, a few people that we need to get round to see at some stage: The Tallest Man on Earth (gig in London in May – but it is a school night??), Frank Turner, Johnny Flynn, Billy Bragg and Laura Marling….better start saving up!

Finally, on the running front:

So plenty going on at the mo!

Running

I have so far made a good start to the year in terms of running. Been attending Tuesday club training on a regular basis, and been pretty good in getting out on a Thursday/Friday as well as a longer run on a Sunday. I have racked up 54miles in total so far this month – this includes one club race.

Tonight’s run was a steady 6miles in around 54mins. So all on target for next month’s Sleaford half-marathon. Will slowly increasing the mileage for the Sunday run in preparation.

Project365 #16 – Ramsey Frostbite

Today saw the fourth race of the Frostbite League take place, hosted by Ramsey Runners. A very windy morning welcomed all runners to the 5ish mile course. A thirteen strong Bourne Town Harriers senior team made the long and arduous journey into Fenland along with nearly 400 runners from various local running clubs.

With the wind mainly in their backs for the first half of the race a good early pace was needed. Tony did just this and disappeared into the distance finishing in 45th place in a time of 33.46, and being first Bourne runner home bagged the 1pt towards the BTH Club Series. Second Bourne runner home was not as cut-and-dry. Richard got off to a fast pace only for Phil and Shaun to hunt him down at around the half-way mark. As they headed into the wind for the second half of the race it was clear it was going to be a close run thing with neither runner wanting to relinquish the coverted second Bourne runner home.

It all came down to the last half-mile, Phil was ahead, although clearly struggling, when Shaun found the extra strength needed to power home. It was a good run from Shaun in his first race since September, even if it was a bit sneaky!! Phil held off the challenge of Richard to finish in 110th place (3rd BTH runner).

Further mentions must go to Brian (fashioning his usual bright orange hat) being the 5th BTH runner home, followed by Roland, Dave and Natalie (first of the BTH ladies). Final times and placings can be found here and on the BTH website here.

Well done to everyone, not forgetting Rich for the fantastic collecting and recording of numbers.

Project365 #14 – Running

Today’s picture is the Runner’s World Magazine. The new year brings renewed enthusiasm to get back the speed and set some PBs this year. I have already made a bigger effort on the training front – attending club sessions and getting out on the road a bit more.

Races planned in the near future: Sleaford Half-Marathon and Nene Valley 10. As well as the normal Sunday five mile Frostbites, beginning on Sunday with the Ramsey Frostbite.

This evening I ran 5 mile at a steady 8min/mile pace, completing in just under 40mins – 350ft ahead of my virtual training partner.

Tonsurephobia, blogs and running…

This project365 thingy is going well, at least it means that a piture will posted each day, even if the blogs run dry. Although if it wasn’t for the Blackberry it would be a struggle – I love that I can take a picture and update blog by email – how cool is that?!

After posting a picture of myself for project365 #9 I have decided that a visit to the hairdressers is in order. I will be booking an appointment for the weekend that way I will not bottle out. I will break from the hold of this terrible disorder…tonsurephobia.

On a lighter note, Helen has finally started her own blog…she will be taking part in project365 as well as the occasional blog: www.churchy365.wordpress.com

Finally, the running bug has got me again…big effort this year to get some PBs. The postponed Nene Valley 10 takes place towards the end of February and I plan to complete a couple of half-marathons in the spring – maybe even an actual marathon, Nottingham, Leicester??? Still to decide.
