Frank Turner…..again!

My love affair with the fantastic Frank Turner continues……and so a blog post was inevitable….

Last Sunday it was the turn of The Engine Shed in Lincoln to host another great Turner gig. It was another sold out gig which is now the norm for Frank Turner.

Support took the form of Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun, and Tim Barry. Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun are a band from Cheltenham, tipped to be big in the near future. Tim Barry an American singer/songwriter playing a rather depressing set that kicked off with a song about a fella who ended up serving time for shooting his sister's husband.

Frank Turner yet again showed why he is becoming so popular, an audience featuring young and old danced and sang the night away in an attempt to knock Wolverhampton off the dance-off top step. Frank played tunes from all four studio albums and a couple from the new album due in 2013. It was also great to see a favourite track of mine, 'Romantic Fatigue', seen played live.

The evening ended with the usual rendition of 'Photosynthesis', complete with a packed Engine Shed sitting down before jumping up and singing and dancing, in what has become a trademark finish to the night.

Overall another brilliant night, and thanks to Twitter I even shifted a spare ticket I had, at face value of course!

Next gig: Frank Hamilton at The Barfly in Camden on the 20th December.

Origami or Kirigami….you decide!

Today's piece of traditional Japanese paper folding, #19, a horse, required cutting *shocked face*. I was slightly perturbed by this, to the point where I nearly scrapped the horse idea. That was until I found out, thanks to Twitter, that origami with cutting is actually called Kirigami. So I thought, what the eck, let's give it a go….

The result was a rather funky looking horse….

Origami #11

After #origamisaturday and the pressure of creating three masterpieces in one day it was nice to just have the one to make. After yesterday's blog post I had a request from Twitter to make a fish, and not being one to disappoint, a fish was the plan.

A quick look on the origami app I found a rather amazing looking koi carp that I thought would be impressive….

However, after a very frustrating hour and three failed attempts later….

I decided on a rather simpler couple of fishes….

Juneathon Day 30

Today’s run a steady dog jog, 4 miles on the trails around Bourne. A pretty uneventful run, except for bumping into Shaun who was in the middle of a 17-miler! He did invite me to join him, but I’m running the Thurlby 10k tomorrow so didn’t want to go crazy!

Total mileage today = 3.95

Total Juneathon mileage after day 30 = 114.07

After ten days of Juneathon I decided to take a more relaxed approach to the whole ‘run everyday’ mantra. Due in part, to workload and Euro 2012, but also the fact that I didn’t want the added pressure – I missed out on 6 days actual running. But on a positive note: I really enjoyed the month, mileage was good (considering I dipped out on some runs), had some really great runs, read some fabulous blogs and good banter on Twitter. Well done everybody!

Juneathon 2012: a success!

Boat Race via Twitter

Due to a rather eventful race I thought a blog dedicated to the Boat Race via Twitter was in order. All posts appeared on Twitter during what was, I think, one of the most entertaining races I can remember.

My first tweet about #theboatrace sums up what I always think….

But then, thanks to Trenton, Twitter really came into its own….

And this probably sums up what everyone was thinking….

Overall an interesting afternoon watching #theboatrace, and thanks to Twitter a very entertaining one!

Operation Cutty Sark Day 4

This isn’t going too well, it even prompted me to tweet…..

https://twitter.com/#!/phillengthorn/status/187515549704654848

Stages 2, 3 and 4 were small assemblies that needed to be made and then added later in the build. Only problem was that they all required assembling half a dozen ridiculously small parts. The assembly of these small sub-assemblies require either two people with freakily small fingers; or two miniature sized people of the Tom Thumb variety. Together with the fact that the instructions aren’t exactly clear as to what you should be sticky where you can probably guess that the assembly of said sub-assemblies didn’t go too well. The pieces are so small that they seem easier to stick to your fingers than any other piece of the model. After lots of swearing, a broken scalpel and aching back, stages 2, 3 and 4 are complete……

So 4 days down, I have even begun painting the odd bit. That’s another thing, why do airfix make the model out of shiny plastic? It is impossible to paint. The look I’m going for is the ‘just been risen from the seabed’ look.

The facts: 4/19 complete, 26 days to go…….I think I’m doing alright……
