Janathon Day 1

It was blowing a hooligan this morning, therefore day 1 of Janathon was completed in the calm of the garage and on the treadmill.

35 mins. 3.28 miles.

Strava said it was a ‘relaxed effort’ with an average heart rate of 125bpm. I’m going to keep an eye on these things this year.

They also awarded me a badge:

I’m also going to be trying out a few new podcasts over the course of the month, ideally something running related. My go to running podcast is ‘Running Commentary’, but today I went with ‘That’s Runnable’. It was a second and final attempt to see if it’s something I could listen to. It’s not. The search continues…

After abandoning the podcast halfway through run I went for music: Bastille and the album ‘Doom Days’.

Day 1. Done.

31 days. 31 runs. Lovely jubbly. #janathon

Janathon Day 31

That is it. Done. There are 31 days in January and I have run on every single one of them. 31 runs. Here are my Janathon stats:

Today's run was at the woods in the snow, yes you heard that correctly, in the snow. I needed to do 6.67 miles to break the 130 mile barrier. I ran 6.72. Cushty.

There were not many people about this morning, unsurprising really considering it was bloody Arctic weather – freezing cold, blowing a hooligan and snowing.

Clearly the snow was starting to send me slightly crazy.

I'm not really in the mood for a reflective Janathon post at the moment – that will come later – but suffice to say , as is normal of Janathon, it has been an experience.

Today's mileage = 6.72

Total Janathon mileage = 130.04

I don’t mean to be rude…

Janathon Day 30 – The Penultimate Day

This week has been very cold. Therefore, since Monday, all but one of my runs have been done on the treadmill at the gym. I'm not the greatest fan of the gym; I prefer to run outside. I originally joined just so I could still run on those cold, wet winter nights. Although I do occasionally do a bit on the bike, or a bit of cross training, I have even been known to do a bit on the rowing machine. But what you will never catch me doing is weight training.

The gym I go to is a bit 'old skool' – lots of weight machines, lots of free weights and lots of big muscle men. Now, I don't mind if people want to workout using weights, good luck to them I say. However, there must come a point when you feel that you are big and strong enough. The boys at the gym where I go don't seem to know where that 'point' is.

What you end up with are blokes pacing around with little heads on massively overgrown, pumped up bodies. Their bodies are so enlarged that they seem unable to relax – they just look so tense all the time – I'd imagine that they just ache all day. Not my cup of tea.

At this point you are probably expecting a sneaky picture of said fellas – that is not going to happen – I wouldn't want to risk it, I'll get lynched. So you get a rather accurate artist impression*…

As for the last run of the month? Not sure what it will be yet, probably hit the trails of the woods for a final muddy blast. We'll see what happens.

Today's mileage = 4.27

Total Janathon mileage = 123.33

* if I do not blog tomorrow you will know that one of the muscle men at the gym reads my blog and has broken me in half.

Yep, you've guessed it, we had a little visitor over tonight!

Bagsy not tidying up!

Busy. Busy. Busy.

Janathon Day 29

Thursday: always a busy day. However, they are doubly busy when a full day of teaching is followed by parents' evening. Then throw Janathon into the mix and you have a very busy day.

It was a bitterly cold night when I finally trudged out of school, and after a bit of a snow shower this afternoon I was faced with the prospect of scraping the car of ice to get home.

Therefore, although you've probably guessed already, it was a trip to the gym for tonight's run. It was a quick 4-miler on the treadmill – quick because I wanted to get home for food. The past couple of nights at the gym has shown me one thing – legs are feeling strong at the moment – must try and get a couple of races sorted – don't want to waste the mileage.

Today's mileage = 4.13

Total Janathon mileage = 119.06

In position for an evening of chat…

Enough said.

Another load of nonsense…

Janathon Day 28

It is all…getting…too much….and the thought….of writing…yet….another blog…is pushing me…over the…edge.

Gym again. Hill reps.

Today's mileage = 3.23

Total Janathon mileage = 114.93

Today's picture is my view, watching tomorrow's weather forecast, as I sit on the sofa struggling to write a blog. It doesn't look like it will be a snow day tomorrow.

But I've not given up on getting one at some stage!

Where did that day go?

Janathon Day 27

The day began with an early morning trip to the shop to pick up something for lunch (see below).

The rest of the day was all a bit of a blur. What with teaching, marking, planning and this that and everything else, today’s run was tagged onto the end of the day. At 10.30pm! Yes you read that right…10.30pm. That is dedication above and beyond.

Of course, once you have run you have to blog. Done.

Today’s mileage = 2.61

Total Janathon mileage = 111.70
