#juneathon day 29

I don't know if it is the fact that today is the penultimate day of Juneathon, but I found the run tonight very hard work. It was always going to be a short run as the weekend has been very busy; travelling here there and everywhere. The 3 miles I ran felt like 33 miles: my legs were aching; my breathing was a mess; and my head was all over the place. I think I just had it in my mind that the month is nearly finished so it made the run seem harder than it actually was.

Today's mileage 3.04

Total Juneathon mileage = 124.16

Long Slow Run….

With the prospect of completing 20 miles and 200 obstacles less than a month away I decided that I needed to get some miles under my belt. So this morning I ran 16.3 miles. It was a lovely morning. I was even feeling strong up to about 14 miles but the last couple were a struggle. A simple stile at mile 15 felt like a mountain and even kerbs were requiring a big effort. Not sure how I'm going to cope with 200 obstacles.

But I'm glad I've completed a nice long run. Plan is to complete 18 or so miles next weekend, with a few days at the gym in between.

JD7

The journey home from work took slightly longer tonight, lots of diversions in place due to a major accident locally. The added time sitting in the car, together with getting far to comfortable on the sofa, meant a run was not going to happen.

So something different.

There will be a new building appearing in London in the next four years. One Blackfriars. This is what it will look like….

Tonight, in my head, I climbed the 50 storey building and reached the top of it. I went past the upmarket shopping complex. I went past the studio apartments that will be on sale for £960,000. I went past the two-bedroom apartments that will be priced at £1,850,000. I went past the three-bedroom apartments that will be on sale for £2,900,000. I even went past the restaurant and viewing platform. I also walked back down. Only on the way down I had a three course meal and a couple of cocktails, registered my interest on a three-bedroom apartment and picked up some designer clothes.

Ok, let me start again….tonight I went up and down these 50 times….

Not quite as glamourus, but just as knackering.

Swimming #9

Deepings Leisure Centre was the destination for today's swimming trip. This is the second attempt to swim here, first time I got slightly confused about the opening hours. It was well worth the wait, this pool is a great place for a swim: local, clean and quiet.

In fact, today it was eerily quiet, at one point the swimmers in the pool were nearly outnumbered by lifeguards. We were slightly worried on arrival that it was closed as there were so few cars in the car park.

Admission is £3.95, and overall it is probably the best pool we have been to this month:

  • Very clean throughout.
  • Nice and local, only a 15 min drive.
  • Very quiet – great for swimming lengths (whether or not this is the norm I'm unsure).
  • Great water – eyes were slightly tender but I put this down to the Peterborough pool plus the amount of times we've been swimming lately.
  • Fantastic showers, hot and powerful. No need to cling to the pipe in an effort to get wet at this place.

As for the swimming, because it was quiet, we were able to do a lot of swimming and the time passed really quickly. Swimming continues to go well, my technique has improved no end since the start of the month. Marie, who I dragged with joined me again for today's session, has also seen a big improvement in her technique.

That makes nine swimming trips this month and three trips in the last three days, hence….

I think maybe a day off tomorrow.

Juneathon Day 12

Tuesday is club training night. Which means:

knackered [ˈnækəd] Brit Slang (adj)

1. exhausted; tired out

2. worn out; no longer working, esp after long or hard use

Training tonight was a tempo session:

  • Warm up
  • 10min fast
  • 3min recovery
  • 10min fast
  • Cool down

Mileage tonight = 4.85

Total Juneathon mileage after day 12 = 43.04
