Janathon Day 11

The end of a week at school that actually seemed to go pretty quick, considering we had various workshops and immersion days in preparation for Thursday's English exam.

So another late run in the dark. Although rather than the normal 4ish miles I've been doing lately I dropped the mileage a bit and upper the pace. Ended up doing 3.66 miles in 28 minutes, worked out at an average pace of 7.42 min/mile. I've been using RunKeeper to log the miles this month rather than using my Garmin, and when I got home I noticed I had quite unintentionally created the first runart of the month. Can you guess what it is?

When I returned home I had a lovely fruit crumble waiting for me….

Now this evening it was pretty cold out, but I was prepared, I was well wrapped up. But looking at the weather forecast or the next few days it may not be enough.

It will be an early run tomorrow as we're off down south tomorrow to visit our brand new nephew…

Today's mileage = 3.66

Janathon mileage so far = 47.79

Juneathon Day 16

You may be feeling a bit of deja vu going on….

WOT! NO DAY 15?

Yes, once again, I have managed to fail in my attempt at running everyday. Although, given that I now have a new lazy relaxed approach to the whole Juneathon challenge, I’m not beating myself up about it. The excuse I offer to the Gods of Juneathon, to quote many a teenager: “I couldn’t be bothered!”.

Anyway….onwards and upwards….Day 16….

After a lovely lay in, some blog reading and some bacon sarnies, I was ready for a run. A nice relaxing dog jog around the woods – not heard that phrase before!!? (Not to self: must make the runs sound more dynamic).

Headed off for the woods and some trail running. Weather forecast said: “Very windy and possible scattered showers”. It was very windy but once in the shelter of the woods it was pretty pleasant, until the said showers appeared! But as true to their wood as the weather people are, they were ‘scattered’ and didn’t last for long. A pretty uneventful run, I took in most of the trails, as you can see by the route. I don’t want to start the #runart off again, but does it look like a man sat on a rock contemplating the future?

One mildly interesting thing happened, I passed the same hiker three times. On the first time he said, “Good afternoon,” on the second time he gave me a knowing smile, and on the third time he completely ignored me! I’m sure this means something….but I can’t think what!!??

iPod was on shuffle and it came up with some great tunes. I also heard some great lyrics that I hadn’t heard for a while and feel the need to share them with the world:

It’s hard to see the light when the fridge door is closed.
Tip-Toe down the hall, open the door, found out that God is a small sausage roll.

‘Full Fat’ by Newton Faulkner

I think Newton Faulkner is great. He is a genius with the guitar and a fantastic songwriter. Saw him at Cambridge Folk Festival last year and he comes across as a really nice bloke. Definitely on the list of gigs to see.

Who’s that gut lord marching, you should cut down on your porklife mate, get some exercise.

‘Parklife’ by Blur

I was never a great Blur fan, I preferred Oasis, but I love that line, and rather relevant with Juneathon in progress.

Total Juneathon mileage after day 16 = 54.12

#janathon Day 29

Janathon Day 29 – 120+ miles

‘Long Run Sunday’ – the runner’s bread and butter. A steady 13-miler around the local woods and fields in around 2 hours, pretty pleased with that, could have run further but I’ve got a stack of marking to do. Not sure if I will get in another long run before the Stamford St. Valentines 30k. Although considering I’ve passed the 120 miles for the month, don’t think I’ll need to. Today it was a lovely bright morning, lots of runners and dog walkers about, in fact at one point Bourne Woods looked like Oxford Street!

95% of people out today gave me a greeting/nod/wave in reply to a ‘good morning’. Although there was a particularly miserable woman out with her dog that I passed TWICE and BOTH times failed to even get an indication that I was there!

But on to the important news of the day……the #janathon runart is nearly there. Latest news suggests that we are waiting on an ‘A’….

Q: What do you call a group of runners creating #janathon in a runart style?

A: Anything you want, they are so messed up from running EVERYDAY in January they won’t even know you’re there!

#janathon Day 28

Janathon Day 28…3 days to go

Today’s run had two purposes:

  • Complete day 28 of janathon
  • Create an ‘N’ in a runart style

A 3.6 mile run around the local fields was pretty uneventful except for the dog being attacked by some crazy bulldog (that had escaped it’s garden) before we had even got out of our road. The bulldog’s owner gave me a lame ‘sorry’ – I wish it legal to throw rat poison over garden fences!

But on to the important job of the day….run an ‘N’….

Before I began, like an artist imagining his work on canvas, I surveyed MY canvas (the black thing is Billy Boy)…..

I’m pretty pleased with the outcome, a bit wobbly in places, but I’m putting that down to satelite signal issues. May I present an ‘N’…..

I’ll leave it to @copy7t to do any editing that is required. Can’t wait to see the finished article!

#janathon Day 26

Janathon Day 26 – 100+ miles

Over 100 miles completed in the last 26 days!

Tonight’s run was ‘endurance training’ with the club. Which actually seems to mean just running a bit slower than you’re used to – the clubs ‘coach’ gave me a pace of around 8.45 per mile.  At this point in janathon that sounds like what I need (legs feeling very tired). To celebrate passing the 100 mile point, and taking the lead from @copy7t and @rencestar here is my attempt at some #runart:

‘Running Man’…..ok…..so it’s not the best piece of art ever created, and I know the arms are a tad short – but it was the best I could do – unless jumping over back gardens is allowed!

@timcnicholls has also had the fantastic idea of spelling out ‘#janathon’ in a #runart style – each person taking a separate letter – bagsy having an ‘N’!

So two sets of stats: runart and club training:

Q. Your riding a horse at full speed, a giraffe is beside you, an elephant in front of you and a lion behind you! What do you do???

A. You get your drunk ass off of the carousel !!

#janathon Day 25

Janathon Day 25 – 6 days to go…

Today’s run – after yesterday’s effort – was always going to be a nice gentle run. That it was! A gentle 3-miler around the estate opposite. Only one runner spotted tonight – he waved at me very enthusiastically – either I know him or he to is doing janathon and going slightly crazy!

Can I just repeat – only 6 days to go!

Today I’ve had a chance to catch-up on some janathon blog reading and I have to admit that @copy7t wins the best blog post of the day! I just love #runart – ‘Trafalgar Man’ is genius – #runart it even has its own dedicated website. I will be making every effort to create something over the next couple of days (I need to get planning).

Blogs are getting more and more mundane as we reach the end of the month – running out of things to say!

Keep on going everyone…not sure if I’ve mentioned it….only 6 days to go!

….jokeathon (forgot on yesterday’s post)…..

“So I was getting into my car, and this bloke says to me ‘Can you give me a lift?’ I said “Sure, you look great, the world’s your oyster, go for it.”
