Where did that day go?

Janathon Day 27

The day began with an early morning trip to the shop to pick up something for lunch (see below).

The rest of the day was all a bit of a blur. What with teaching, marking, planning and this that and everything else, today’s run was tagged onto the end of the day. At 10.30pm! Yes you read that right…10.30pm. That is dedication above and beyond.

Of course, once you have run you have to blog. Done.

Today’s mileage = 2.61

Total Janathon mileage = 111.70

Faster than a speeding bicycle…. #janathon

Janathon Day 11

Today’s early morning run was, once again, at the woods. Plenty of people about this morning, including some very slow bike riders, that I actually ran past. Conjuring up images of Superman. How does the phrase go?

‘Faster than a speeding bicycle. More powerful than a gust of wind.

Able to leap over muddy puddles in a single bound’

It was very muddy, at times it was rather difficult to stay upright. Just recently I am suffering with a bit of an achy back after doing some trail running, I think I need to strengthen the core!?! Perhaps I should be hitting the weights at the gym? That sounds very Superman. Not.

I was accompanied on this morning’s run by Michael Rosenberg, AKA Passenger, and very enjoyable it was too.

Today’s mileage = 6.85

Total Janathon mileage = 51.14

Landlord #decembeer

Tonight's entry, #12, into the #decembeer hall of fame is Landlord….

I've had various comments from people that seem to suggest that I haven't really liked any of the beers so far this month, and that in fact I don't actually like beer. If you are one of those people you may want to look away now….

Landlord by Timothy Taylor's Brewery is a 'strong pale ale', the first pale ale of #decembeer, and although perfectly drinkable, it is not one I'd bother trying again. It had a very citrusy, refreshing, very hoppy aroma. Which was ok – nothing amazing – but ok. And even the initial taste was ok – nothing amazing – but ok. It was the twangy aftertaste that put me off a bit. It sort of hung around at the back of the throat – to quote Billy Bragg – like a fart in a Russian space station.

I think I need to return to Tesco's 'dark and full-bodied' beer shelf in an attempt to bring back a bit of positivity to the blog. Something like the 'Old Perculier' tastetastic variety.

#janathon Day 4

Janathon Day 4

I read someone’s blog yesterday (can’t remember who they were) that mentioned a lot of blogs seemed like a weather report, so for the record, I will not be mentioning the massive ****ing ridiculous hooligan of a wind that was raging AGAIN for tonight’s run.

Also, I know it’s only day 4 but work seems to be getting in the way of janathon, what with working late at school and the fact I should actually be marking rather than sitting and writing this, I dread to think what’s going to happen by the time we get to day 31. Ok, well onto today’s run….

The plan was a couple of laps of the estate where I live. This includes running on the path for a bit before passing Tesco…

…and running on a muddy track down the side of a field, over a stream and eventually getting back on the path. Also, to kill two birds with one stone, I took the dog for his evening walk/run. Simple you would think. In reality, not quite so simple:

  • The track was incredibly muddy (think cartoon character running) and incredibly dark.
  • Nearly ran into a mysterious cyclist without lights.
  • When negotiating a particularly tricky part of the run (muddy under foot and trying to avoid falling into the stream) I promptly ran through a REALLY deep puddle.
  • Needless to say, on the second lap I did exactly the same thing!

But on a more positive note…..day 4 done!
