The dreaded ‘Red Nose Day’ at school today. Cue hundreds of crazy kids in non-school uniform running around like it’s Christmas.

It’s days like today when I am thankful that I like to run. I managed a trip to the gym at the end of the day for an hour or so on the treadmill – warm up and cool down with 5 miles in the middle – it was good to clear the head.

It was also my last run as a 48 year old – tomorrow’s my birthday! Woop woop!

Not quite sure how we’ve got to the 71st day of the year, but here’s today’s picture:

The gym I go to has finally starting to update the machines. It’s a bit of an old school gym, lots of weights, lots of mirrors, and lots of machines that are slowly beginning to fall apart.

So it was quite a surprise when I discovered two new cross-trainers: touchscreens, internet connected and very swanky. I’m looking forward to some new treadmills, which are apparently, on the way.

It’s pretty easy to tell when it’s been an uneventful day. Today’s picture: the microwave in the staff room which contained a pot of leftover veggie chilli and rice from last night.

Although, I did also attend the gym. An hour on the treadmill.

So I had a choice of two inanimate objects. The microwave just pipped the treadmill.

Day 28 Veganuary

I was in charge of dinner tonight: vegan sausage rolls, chips and beans. These Linda McCartney sausage rolls are lovely.

Just what was needed after yet another ridiculous day at school, followed by an hour on the treadmill at the gym.

I also watched The Ultimate Triathlon on Amazon Prime – well worth a watch – follows the story of a fella who swam, cycled and ran 2000km in 12 days from Morocco to Monaco. Amazing.

Day 7 RED January

After not running at all in December (and barely in November) because of the niggle in the calf, this RED January is a godsend. It means I can very slowly increase distance and speed.

So today I was at the gym – 4 miles on the treadmill – slowly increasing the speed of each mile.

I’m hoping that by the end of January I might be somewhere need where I was about 3 months ago so that I can start building up the mileage and getting back to some faster parkruns.

RED January stats:

  • 1 parkrun
  • 1 gym session
  • 2 bike rides
  • 2 runs
  • 1 walk

Due a treat….

I know, it's only day 4 of Juneathon, but I deserve a treat.

It was a trip to the gym again, with the now usual bit of cross-training to avoid aggravating the calf muscle. But I also did a 10 min on the rowing machine to mix it up a bit. Following by 109 sec plank when I got in.

My reward….and #155 in Project365….

Juneathon totals after day 4:

  • 2 mile run
  • 10.23 mile cross-train
  • 69 press-ups
  • 376 sec planks
  • 2000m row
