A bit more red on the map…

At this point I feel I need to clarify that although I have titled this a ‘challenge’ there really are very few rules. Just one in fact: run all the roads in Aldeby, Wheatacre and Burgh St Peter, known locally as ‘The Triangle’. As for how long the runs have to be or how long it should all take? Absolutely no idea. It’ll be completed when it is completed.

Today was the fifth run and as I forgot my phone to take some pictures, you’ll just have to believe me when I say:

• Dun Cow Road – done ✅
• St Mary’s Road – part of
• Common Road – part of

The first time out pounding the roads all week – it’s been very busy and dark by the time I get in from work.

But I put on some headphones, turned up the music and forced myself out the door.

Got a bit more red on the map.

I was accompanied on this evening’s run with Romesh Ranganathan and his ‘For the Love of Hip Hop’ podcast. I’m think liking a bit of hip hop at the mo.

The run every road within the three village triangle reaches day 3. A bit more red on the map.

It was pitch black by the time I got out there tonight. I love running in the dark, I love not quite knowing exactly where you are. This feeling was exaggerated tonight with this lovely little new addition to the running wardrobe.

Technically this was a genius little buy. Firstly, it’s winter and very cold out, always need a hat. Secondly, built in light, negates the need to take anything else. Boom.

Of course, in reality it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Light not very bright – made for quite an exciting run – especially when I nearly barrelled into a couple of dog walkers who didn’t see me coming.

So it was 4.5 miles tonight – not the original intention – but the initial loop I was planning wasn’t very far. So…

Highlight of the run? Realising that the noise the train made in the distance was the exact noise that David and Jack heard when they didn’t stick to the path and stay off the moors in ‘An American Werewolf in London’.

Lovely early start – bit windy plus I had to wait until it was light enough to run – but at 7.30am I was out and running.

4 and a bit miles this morning.

When I say ‘Beccles Road Done’ – apparently there are loads of Beccles Roads – but Beccles Road (Burgh St Peter/Wheatacre) done. 🤷‍♂️

Clarification. This says: Burgh Road (Tar Barrel Corner. Poor sign maintenance from Norfolk County Council.

Talking of poor sign maintenance, fancy a game of guess the road name?

First I must admit this wasn’t read entirely in 2022…just the last 20 pages. 😳

‘The Cottage’ by Lisa Stone

Loved the first half of this novel – it begins straightaway with creepy goings on in the cottage. A second plot line is introduced very early on with no obvious link.

Although, by the time you get towards the middle of the novel it begins to become much more predictable.

In the end, the novel felt a bit disappointing overall. I gave it three stars – that’s probably being a bit kind.

Next up: Every Day (it’s back to teenage fiction)

A lovely little gentle 2-miler to get a few roads done. A bit of red on the map…
