Janathon Day 10

Janathon Day 10

Following on from yesterday's blog post about data, I thought I'd give you some more:

  • 32.25% of Janathon in complete
  • Average daily mileage of 4.429
  • I am currently exceeding progress
  • I am predicted to complete 137 miles
  • Intervention is not required
Although at one point today I thought I would never walk again. I had, embedded in my foot, the biggest shard of glass the world has ever seen*.

After a very long operation to remove said fragment of evil, during which I experienced more pain than a woman during childbirth, I was finally able to fit in today's run. It was round the woods in the dark with the dog. I had my trusty head torch on, although that didn't help me spot the huge twisted mass of branches that almost caused me and the dog to end up in a ditch.

Today's mileage = 4.24

Total Janathon mileage = 44.29

Today's photo, and evidence of the rock and roll lifestyle I live, tumble dryer shopping.

* I would have taken a picture of the offending piece of glass but it was too big and there was far too much blood.

I wasn’t the only one….

….lots and lots of people today had decided to go shopping. Initially the plan was to treat myself to a couple of CDs in HMV's amazing sale, although the sale was not 'amazing', unless you wanted to buy DVDs. They had millions* of DVD box sets on offer. I didn't really think people bought DVDs anymore, what with Netflix and various other similar 'ways' to watch stuff, but apparently, judging by the trillions** of shoppers crammed into the store, they do.

So with sales on in all shops I decided to have a wander round and pick up a few 'bargains'. There wasn't many bargains. Unless, of course, you dress ridiculously or are the size of a bus, which to be fair, is the majority of people living in Peterborough***.

I did managed to treat myself to a few bits….

  • A new CD: 'Bad Blood' by Bastille. This has been on my list of albums to have a listen to for a while. In fact, after bumping into a former student who advised me to go for the 'All This Bad Blood' – a reissue of their debut album – and commenting that it is 'awesome', I took his advice.
  • A book to read: Ghost Story by Peter Straub. Again, this has been on my reading list for a while. Rumour has it that it is a 'classic' and very scary. I've had a few people recommend it, it was first published in 1979 so it has taken me a good 30 years to finally get round to it. Apparently there was also a film made of it?
  • A new running top. With Janathon fast approaching and the weather probably going to get colder in the new year****, I thought a new long-sleeve running top was overdue.

Recently I have read lots of blog posts that have been reflecting on the past year as well as putting in place targets and goals for 2014. This has got me thinking….expect another blog post soon….

In other news…..

Movember has come to an end….

So Movember has finally come to an end. My moustache and I have gone through some tough times over the course of the month: the itchiness, the overhanging lip hairs, the remnants of food hanging on the top lip, and not to mention looking absolutely ridiculous. But after 30 days, I've grown rather attached to it. I've even enjoyed grooming and trimming to keep it in pristine condition.

So today my moustache and I spent some quality time together. We went into Peterborough with the idea of maybe getting a few Christmas presents, this didn't happen, instead I treated myself to a couple of CDs…..

When we got back from shopping we went to the woods to have our final run together. An emotional experience: the wind rushing through the hairs and the feel of sweat building up amongst the whiskers.

At this stage I feel I should point out that that I'm not very good at the whole growing facial hair palaver. But that was not about to stop me modelling my mo in a David Brent style….

Looking forward to Decembeer already!

Day 16 #juneathon

Sunday 16th June…..Father's Day….or to put it in a simpler form….Ridiculous Mass Consumerism Day. But that didn't stop me beginning the day by taking full advantage of it (reconstruction)….

This rather slow and lazy start to the day continued until about lunchtime when a spot of shopping in Peterborough was needed: summer shoes/sandals were top of the list. There are a plethora of summer footwear around at the moment: Birkenstock, Toms, Reef, to name just a few. I nearly went for this rather groovy pair from Cushe, although at £50 I decided against it for now…..

However a beautiful pair of Toms are the way to go!

After shopping I did a bit of work: edited a video for school, marked a couple of bits and planned lessons for tomorrow. Although now the Y11s have left it does make for a slightly lighter day tomorrow; I am particularly looking forward to period 4.

And so to Juneathon….

After a couple of short runs the past couple of days I was determined to get a few miles under my belt tonight. A date at the woods was arranged. Completed over 8 miles with the help of the iPod on shuffle which made for an interesting mix tonight….here is just a flavour…

Frank Hamilton – a few tracks from Frank tonight came on, but this one particularly stuck in my head…

U2 – now I can't stand them and not entirely sure how they got on the iPod, so how about a particular attractive picture of the old rocker himself (what a mess)…

And for the sophisticated, beautiful and classy people out there, a bit of opera, Vide Cor Meum, as featured in 'Hannibal'….

A great run tonight, bringing the total Juneathon mileage to over 75 miles, so heading west from Bourne that would take me to Uttoxeter, although a break half-way at Melton Mowbray for a coffee may be required!

Today's mileage = 8.68

Total Juneathon mileage = 79.08

Mojo level = very high

Over and out…or should I say…NEVER over and NEVER out
